Neighborhoods are like people, they each have their own unique personality and vibe. There is something to love about every neighborhood in the city but when you are planning a night out with your friends, moving to town or visiting from out of town, you want to find the place that fits you best.

Dirty 6th St

Dirty 6th: Downtown. I-35 to Congress. Famous bar area where the streets close every Thurs.-Sun.

East 6th Street

Neighborhood/District: Main entertainment area in East Austin. East of I 35 to Chicon. More quirky cousin to Dirty 6th. There are three sections of activity on 6th Street. Dirty 6th is downtown where the streets are blocked off, E 6th St runs from I 35 to Chicon St on the East Side and West 6th St Guadalupe St to S Lamar on the West side of Downtown.

Don’t Miss: Il Brutto, Hotel Vegas and Volstead, Buenos Aires, Tacos Juanita, White Horse, Whistlers and The Liberty

Superlative: Most likely to have a tattoo

Neighborhood/District in West Downtown Austin: Third main entertainment areas on 6th Street. There are three sections of activity on 6th Street. Dirty 6th is downtown where the streets are blocked off, E 6th St runs from I 35 to Chicon St on the East Side and West 6th St Guadalupe St to S Lamar on the West side of Downtown.

Neighborhood/ District West Austin:  West 6th from Lamar Blvd and West 5th St from Lamar Blvd to W Lynn St. Just across S Lamar. More upscale and calmer section of W 6th St

East Cesar Chavez Street

Neighborhood/District in East Austin, Related to Holly Neighborhood, Govalle Neighborhood.  East. Cesar Chavez is a main thoroughfare that runs across most of East Austin and through Downtown. For the purposes of this description, the parameters are I-35 east to Shady Lane just before the 183 entrance ramp. E Cesar Chavez feeds neighborhoods such as Holly and Govalle and runs parallel with the entertainment center E 6th St. Walking Distance to Lady Bird Lake and Butler Hike and Bike trail.

Neighborhood/District in Downtown Austin: Music and entertainment District. Related to Waller Creek park district, Waterloo Park. Perpendicular to Dirty 6th

Don’t Miss: Moody Amphitheater, Waterloo Park, Mohawk’s, Barberella’s, Empire Control Room and Stubb’s Amphitheatre.

South Lamar Boulevard

Neighborhood/District South Austin: North South started at Lady Bird Lake. Most activity happens between Barton Springs Rd and Ben White. One main center is Lamar Union and the immediate surrounding area. South Lamar connects to both South Congress and South 1st Street via W Mary St and Oltorf St

What to expect: High traffic thoroughfare, boutique movie theater, fine dining, sushi, cocktails, brunch and live music

What: Neighborhood/District in South Austin: Runs North and South. Parallel to Lamar and S Congress. Main activity areas between Oltorf and Riverside. Surrounded by Bouldin Creek neighborhood.
